Sell Online - Big Cartel

Hi there,
I have just been reading the forums. My mum comes on here and I was rather interested. I see a lot of people on here that want to sell items. I just thought I'd share my experience.

I work full time but live alone so I earn an extra income from home. I make hand made greeting cards. They do not cost much to make and I sell for around £3 each. I think people buy from me because they are unique and a differnt style from many other cards. Anyway I use a website called bigcartel.com.

Basically people buy from my site and pay through paypal. It isn't like ebay or etsy. It is just my shop I am viewing. You can have shopname.bigcartel.com or advertise it under your own domain.

There is 3 types of member ship. The first is free, one is $10 (around £5 per month) and another $20 (£10 per month) the prices offer you differnt things. Although the free one only allows you 5 products (any quantity of each)
They do not take a % of sales.

I started out with the free one. But found I was selling enough to pay for a better membership.

Anyway it is a great website if you have some creations to sell. And free is you have 5 or less products (normal paypal fees apply)

I make an extra £50-60 a week. The only effort I make really is making the cards (which I love love love) and dragging myself to the post box at the end of the street.

Fees are here bigcartel.com/signup but I suggest trying out the free option first. There is no point in paying out to sell more products is your original 5 do not sell.

Also bigcartel does a small amount of advertising for you on their website, such as newest listing etcetc. But I have been on some cards/arts crafts forums with my website link at the bottom of my posts. Big Cartel allows you to see where your customers are coming from and many of my sales are from these links also.
