nip into Boots and get a pack of dummies and ask if one is hers!!

as far as I know she cant cancel leave she has authorised - it sounds as if she is being a bit tight and doesnt want to go to a recruitment agency!0 -
The legal point of view in this case is that if your employer tries to force you to cancel your holidays, which have been approved, you could well have grounds for a fundamental breach of contract...***L'union fait la force***0

If there is no notice period for changing holidays specified within your contact then your employer has to give you the length of time in notice as you intend to take off, so say you have 1 week booked then they need to provide 1 weeks notice. In short (at least as best I understand it) yes they can make this request provided they have given proper notice.0

Your boss sounds a right silly moo. Is there any reason she can't pull her finger out and cover this sick person's work so you can have a week off? She's going to have to find a replacement anyway. Who is her boss? Do they know how poor at management she is?
If you did agree to cancel the leave I can see any other week you had authorised would be at risk of being cancelled at the last minute too as 'you did it for me last time'. Stand your ground. You need this break. Her inability to sort out staffing issues shouldn't stop you from taking a needed break.0
