That is such a great idea, lostinrates!!!!!!!!!! :j :T :A

Do you know, I have half a mind to nominate you for the post of the week for that. In fact I will, if I can be organised enough to get round to it. ;)

Not sure how one does that - does anyone know? - but it's those little flashes of genius like that that could so easily make a huge difference to the lives of millions.

Thanks for that spark. Made my day. :)

Looked but can only find post of the month bit at the bottom of the forum that appears to have ceased in 2009.

Does anyone know if it's migrated elsewhere, or just been quietly lost at some point last year? :(

    I've been Money Tipped!
When talking to my DD about taking pencil cases to school every day she said that it was not needed as she was supplied items at school. It did not cross my mind to speak to the school about this. Never mind will ensure in the future. The donation that we made to the school will definitely cover both her pencils and those of her class mates until they leave!

Good for you. I hope work has picked up for your DH.

I still find it all surprising. As well as the begging letters do they not send, on acceptance into the school or at the last week of term the year before, a list of what will be required, in the way of clothing and materials in the year ahead? I know not all schools have uniform, but most have dress/appearance codes don't they? This would come under similar requirements for parents to know I would have thought.

Is the organisation really so bad that its left to a child to say whether or not pencils are requisite??

I cannot believe this! My children's school has sent an email out asking us to donate pencils, memory sticks etc as they are desperate. The cuts that have been imposed on the school have lead for them to do this. My husband is furious but I feel we have to oblige. The area we stay is quite an affluent area and to be honest we do not get the Partnership grants etc that I hear some other schools seem to get. Having already donated a large sum to the school funds I fear we will have to do this again.

The thing that gets me mad is that my friend works in a school where there are a 100 kids. They have got everything as the area has a large workforce unemployed. They get all the grants going and are severely over staff. This is the maddening thing.

Has anyone else been asked to donate anything to their child's school?

LOL this fiancial crisis hasn't even started. stick around a while
