Summer 2010 school proms

Hi, well it's finally come around. It's our DDs year 11 school prom this summer and I'd love to get some ideas to make it very special without the cost of a small wedding!
We have been looking for dresses, she has firm ideas and want it's red!
I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where us parents could share tips.
So if anyone has any great ideas please let us all know.
Thanks

My daughter got her dress off ebay and i made the wrist corsage myself by getting a matching purple ribbon and a couple of silk flowers from the local garden centre and put some sparkling beads on a wire and twisted it on the ribbon put a press stud on and it cost me about £2.50 the dress was £15.00 she got some silver shoes in the sales after Christmas for £12.00 a matching bag to put her bits and pieces in cost 50p from the charity shop, and my sister did her makeup and hair. The cheapest limo cost £20 each. So the night cost £50.Jan lunch to work days 0/200

I rented my dress. Cost £30 of which £20 we got back once we returned it
Really didnt see the point in buying a dress that I would wear once!Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
Glad I found this.
My son has a prom this year - he has only just told me!
I know the venue (blimmin miles away from the area we live in where the school is :) and he has asked for £25.00 'for a limo' (I presume they're sharing) and announced he needs a tux
SO
what are the typical cost please of
Limo hire
Tux hire
and just so I know will there be any other expenses - totally alien to me this.
And since DD is in year 9 what will I need to budget for hers?
Are proms fairly commonplace/widespread now?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
