Supervisor Job

Hi all, on Friday i went for a sales assistant job which turned out to be a supervisory role. I've been in retail for about 5 years now, it's not a career i want to pursue but something i do just to get money as i build up a freelance career on the side. There are part time jobs there that are non supervisory but i said i would prefer full time and ended up saying yes to everything she said, which included yes to being ok to being a supervisor.

Thing is, the idea of getting this supervisor job is scaring me. Some days i will be in charge of the whole store, rota's, locking up and cashing up, in charge of all workers etc I'm really really bad at maths and refunds can sometimes really throw me, in previous roles i could just pass it to the supervisor and think 'god im glad i dont have to sort that out'. Obviously with the freelance on the side i want a job that i can do and then go home and not care.

I'm unemployed right now so i will take this if i don't get any other interviews, but I'm really scared and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be offered it on Weds when i go back for a second interview :( Can i get out of this and go for the part time role without looking and sounded like a complete tool?
Trying to spread calmness, understanding and optimism on MSE :)

You can try. If they phone and offer it to you say "I've been giving it some thought and in my present situation I'd prefer not to have this responsibility immediately, would you be interested in employing me in a non-supervisory role with a view to training me up?" But be clear about whether you would accept part-time hours, or not.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • He'll offer me it whilst I'm there face-to-face. I have no time to think about anything, if i say can i think about it I feel it might make me sound like I'm not that interested?
