need to change my budgeting habits monthly overspend £786.00

Had problems with Family Credit when they changed the way they worked out benefit, erratic payments was paid too much when I asked them to send me details on how my claim had been worked out they said they couldn;t tell me the formula/method they used and I would have to pay the overpayment back over £2000.00+ they then told me that I was entitled to £70.00 a month but that it wouldn't be sent to my bank account but taken of the balance of my overpayment. If I still owed them money when my Son left college I would have to then pay out of my wages. When I said show me how you work it out and how much you have paid me to date by sending me written evidence or I won't pay it they said if I didn't I could go to Prison for non payment of over paid benefit.

Hi and welcome...It will help us greatly if you could complete a proper statement of affairs (SOA) using this calculator https://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html - follow the instructions on it to copy and paste it to MSE. Only then will we be able to see where you are splurging this money.

Yikes, I'm afraid I don't know much about benefits so can't offer advice that way. Though it seems odd that they can't provide a breakdown for you or negotiate a more affordable way for you to pay back any overpayments.

However, I agree with Horace, if you could break down your incomings and outgoings a bit more, we could help out on that front. The link Horace gave is the easiest way of doing this.

    Take care :)
