Mortgage question + a opinion question

Options
Hi. Looking to take the plunge soon and buy a house with my fiance! I just have a couple of quick questions that I can get your opinions on if I may!

1. We have seen a house for 115,000 that we really like. We have a ten percent deposit plus moving costs and so on. We have nothing on our cards and my car loan ends in 6 days with no missed payments. Are we likely to get a mortgage for the 103,500? I work for the police and my partner only works part time and our income is about 28,000.

2. The house we have seen is an end terrace. It's 7 Years old and is lovely inside. The only niggle is that there is an alley way that runs around the back of the set of 5 houses which gives access to the back garden of each house which is intended for the residents to bring the bins round on bin day. One entrance is on each side of the end terraces with a locked gate on eac entrance. The path then goes past the front of the set of houses. The lawns are on the other side of this path. So I can assume the neighbours can walk past our front window when they like and have right of access ( not that this bothers too much as it would be once a week) Are there any problems that you guys can see arising from this?

Thanks.

  • I looked at a house in this kind of position also...didn't go for it in the end but not for that reason.
You have a legal right to ensure right of access, as you say but who's land is the piece of path in front of your house? I know its a long shot, but if the path gets damaged, is it your responsibility to sort it out, with costs etc? If someone slips on it or trips, is it "your" fault for not maintaining that piece of land? I honestly don't know the answers to these questions but they were question I posed to myself when I saw the for-mentioned house :)
