Ooh, and another thing, when she packed it in she said one of the nicest things was "getting your home back". Having a house full of toddlers every day leaves its mark!

This is all really helpful stuff, thanks everyone who has replied. The set up costs (smoke alarms, registration etc) will mean that I'll have to commit to it for as long as it takes to earn that back even if I don't like it. I am concerned that my toddler will feel jealous and that I'll be working like a dog for not much money.
I looked into some of the local supply/demand as best I could and there are at least 4 childminders with vacancies all within a mile of my house...does this sound like I don't have much of a chance of getting children to mind?0 -
Are you serious?
Yes, totally.
My DW charges £3.50 per hour/child, and often starts at 7.30 a.m until 6.30 p.m. It is hard work, tiring and demanding. It can be rewarding and a good money earner, if you are organised, and get along with people.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
Its worth gettin in touch ith your nearest Sure Start Children's Centre. Some of those have Childminder Network Co-Ordinators. Their job is to support Childminder with the EYFS and to offer help and advice.0
