Hello, looking for some advice from the good people of the board in how I can bring in a few extra quid to help me clear debts. I'd like to bring in an extra £200 a month if poss - i don't need to, but this would leave me debt free by Jan 2011 so I'd like to push for it. I already work a 40 hour week and can't squeeze any more from that job. So I have some ideas. Can anyone critique these and/or let me know what they think of my ideas:
1. Rent my double garage - has electrics and water and I've seen ad's for people wanting such facilites for doing car spray jobs. Could bring in £150 a month.
2. Do some work from home - not sure what is out there, been thinking along the lines of proof reading!?
3. Rent a room - I only have a 1 bedroom flat but it is very large and has a furnished basement which I could use and rent the main bedroom. Prob £250 a month, not a preferred option.
4. Evening work away from home (bar work?!) - not thought very much about this, one evening a week max.
So...just thinking aloud really. Any advice or comments welcome.

have you thought about match betting?
i did try this for a couple of months, the first i made £420 and went and bought a tv instead of paying towards my debtt (before my LBM), and the second i made around 200 but didnt put much as i did in the first month. i then stopped as circumstances at home changed.
you do have to put abit of money in at first to get the free bets but you soon get it back:), it is worth it but only if you stick to the rules:)Old Account RecoveredDebt at LMB April 2009= £14,980Debt free Sometime in November 2013£69k left of 90k Mortgage - Overpaying by £270 a monthCurrent Savings = £13000MSE turned my life around years ago0 -
Steerpike - have you tried selling stuff on Ebay to get some spare cash?
I recommend a part time job in the evening. You've said one night a week max, but if you can commit to one night during the week and one night at the weekend, you could probably bring in £50 a week. Working in a restaurant may even bring in more with tips.
It all depends on how much you really want to be debt free, I suppose. No expert, No money, No problem!! :j"MIKE'S MOB"0 -

hi,
I think the garage is a good idea if you can get it rented..the second job is a great one too but be careful about the tax ( check it will be worth it) and take into account the travelling expenses before committing. I do tutoring a few hours a week - tue wed and thurs, its helping me loads with making overpayments but I am so exhausted by weekend - I do 40 hours at main job plus 9 hours tutoring - i don't think i can do it forever but it sure helps. If you're good with kids then tutoring brings in between 20 and 40 pounds an hour. Theres also exam marking, I'm not doing it this year for if you can spare a couple of weeks ( i take leave) it brings in 1500 - 2000( it is soul destroying - i can't face it this year - have done it for 4 years now!)
Ebay is a good one - it will help you declutter - basically get everything you don't use ( haven't worn etc out and list on ebay. You may only get a few pounds for things that cost you more, but if you don't use them ( or if clothes don;t wear them) the few pounds might as well be going off your debt. You could also offer to list things for other people and split the profit. furniture sells well I've found - and half used perfume I don't like has sold like a dream - i never thought anyone would buy.. If i could pour a pint i think i might quite like a bar job - meet some new people and have a change of scenery!Baby due 4th May 2013

Hi nomorespending - how do you get involved in the exam marking? Are you a teacher or can anyone apply to do this? Just curious as sounds interesting and I'm always looking for ways to earn some extra money!! Thanks CwC0
