secured loan

I was made redundant back in August 2008 n was out of work for a few week, due to resession i was finding it really difficult to get another job so i registered with an agency. I found work in September with this agency but this unfortunately ended in April as it was only temp work. During this time i always paid my loan but from May last year i was out of work again so i phoned my bank n explained my situation. I was on jobseekers allowance for first time from May to July as it was so hard to find work so they agreed to pay my loan as it was protected. I found a a job in July but as this is only 15 hrs they said i could still claim on my insurance as its not classed as part time work, as long as i kept goin to job centre to sign on.Not long after i got my job i became pregnant so im due to go on maternity allowance in March. Ive phoned my bank and they have said as soon as i sign off i would have to pay my loan everymonth. I thought this is wrong surely when im worse off i wouldnt have to pay. Ive paid to be protected n i thought i would have been covered. Please let me know if this is correct xx

That would be because maternity allowance isn't an unemployment benefit so matenity allowance is basically to pay for you to stay at home after the birth of your baby and not paid because you're unemployed. It'll be a condition of your insurance presumably that you have to be unemployed and actively seeking work or something along those lines. What are your household circumstances? Don't forget you would be entitled to child benefit and child tax credit once the baby's born too. If you're unemployed also look into the surestart grant and the health in pregnancy grant.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Yes it's correct - maternity is never covered and this is stated in your policy docs.0

Thank you for yr replies. Im not unemployed ive only ever been out of work 3 months since i was 16 n im now 27. Ive always worked full time except now i just do 15 hrs which will suit me when i go back after my baby is born. I understand wat yr saying about the insurance only being payed when yr actively seeking work it just seems unfair cos ive paid a loan off before n always paid protection n never claimed except now. I looked for my insurance dovuments but couldnt find them, it is due to be paid off in Feb next year so i suppose ill have to struggle to pay it. I own my own house with my partner so we have quite alot of money to pay out each month. We wont be entitled to working tax credit n dont think we will get that sure start grant.0
