Hairstyle help for the hopeless!

  • When I wanted a new hairstyle I used an online virtual makeover. There are some you have to pay for but I used this one for free:

I used my webcam to upload a pic of me and then tried out lots of variations until I was happy. I really liked this site because you can add glasses, jewellery, tiaras etc. Hours of fun trying out everything!!

When you are happy you can print out the finished pic to take with you to the hairdresser or even email it to the salon!

It's not quite long enough for me to be able to put it up, and I don't really like it up. I have quite a round face, and I just look very severe with it up. I think the real problem is that I am rubbish at this kind of thing, not only can I not style my hair nicely, I can't wear make up either as no matter how hard I try I just can't apply it.

Maybe I'll just a get hat!

I love make up and that really helps I think, how about a make up lesson...

long layers basically means you keep your hair lenght but you have shorter bits on the top but they will be more ear length than mullety .. did thatv make sense , then you could scrunch blow or straightner the hair,

it also takes the weight out of your hair but the shorter the layers you just bring the bulk up your head . think mushroom head lol

did you understand any of that

Yes, that makes sense thanks! I definitely want to avoid mushroom head, that would be no better than the current triangle head!

You definitely need some long layers with curly hair. I've had them for years and years and they're such a help. If you think about it, if your hair is all one length, the curls all end in the same place and lie on top of eachother creating lots of bulk (ie triangle shape) at the end. Long layers help break up this effect. If you look at the picture below, Charlize Theron's hair has lots of shorter layers in, giving it a nice shape.

Are you happy with the products you're using? I really like Paul Mitchell sculpting foam (mousse) on my curly hair

Thank you! I can't imagine my hair would ever look THAT good, but that is definitely the sort of shape I would like :T

As for products, the only ones I have at the moment are for straightening, so once I get a cut, that's something else I'll have to explore. I'll make a note of Paul Mitchell one, thank you.

I'm not sure I want to change hairdresser, I really do hate going, so would rather go somewhere familiar. I really don't think it's my hairdresser's fault, I just don't seem to be able to communicate what I want.
When I had my waist length hair cut off, I had several (free) sessions just chatting about what I wanted doing, before I had anything done. Finally I paid for one of these:

in the salon, mind we're talking 16 years ago and it was VERY cutting edge! I was given some photos to take home, but it was HUGELY helpful because although I still didn't know what I DID want, I knew what I definitely DIDN'T want - ie to look like either of my sisters! :rotfl:

I don't have a fringe, that's another thing I never know whether to have or not when the hairdresser asks me!!
One thing would be to ask the hairdresser's opinion of what it would do for your hair / face shape. I don't have a fringe, but I have the hair which would be my fringe clippered off , because NOT having a fringe doesn't suit me at all.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • I was fed up with my hairstyle ages ago so I took my lovely h dresser a photo from a mag and asked her advice on would i suit it or not. I have never felt happy in some salons and am delighted to find my present one who does a great job, and i always feel looked after from i enter the salon and leave feeling more confident as I am not good at fixing my hair when it is washed:) I always ask her advice on anything to do with my hair
Do a little kindness every day.;)

I have your hair in brown! I am a triangle head too! ( i thought I was the only one.... We should start a support group....Trinagle Heads Unite).

I have to ask for layers through the back and sides but no shorter than chin length, so the front looks "stepped". However I have to make sure the don't Razor cut it because that makes itturn into a ball of fuzz (they get part of the hair and using scissors or a razor they scape the hair against it). I ask for chucky layers. this means when I am in a rush I can just run some john freida frizz ease through it and leave to dry, or a a night out i will scrunch it with a diffuser. If I dry it straight I just rrun a litte straigtening serum trhough just the ends that gives it a slight kicked out look or definition is the proper term.

    Good luck!

(Mine needs cutting again soon - post your results!)
