                    Hi all,
I've been following threads on here for some time now, and finally decided to post something myself. I currently owe... deep breath.... just shy of £22k (£7k Llyods loan, £7k A&L loan, £4k Co-op loan, £2.5k Credit card, £1500 Overdraft).
I've been in a DMP for 2 years now through a 'vulture-ous' company who seem to have their interests at heart rather than mine, so as of tomorrow morning they shall promptly be dismissed. I think alot of the reason I used them is for the ease factor, burying one's head in the sand and thinking it'll all just go away. Their policy was to send any mail from credit agencies to them, they even provide the free-post envelopes.
Yesterday on opening a letter from a collection agency, I was informed that if I didn't get in touch, they'd very soon be banging on my door. So, after a brief moment of 'OMG, I think i'm going to be sick...', I gathered my wits to give them a call and quickly (and hassle free!!!) arranged to start making monthly payments via Standing Order. Maybe i've given in to their demands, or (and more likely), i'd like to think that i've pulled my head from the sand and i'm ready to confront my debt head on. Phoning that collection agency yesterday gave me an almost liberating feeling. I felt that I pulled back some control over my debts, it's given me the confidence now to call the other comapanies and finally get myself on track.
I'm going to be 30 very soon and I start a new and unique job in the coming weeks. Things are looking positive, lets MAKE them positive eh!:T
I'll keep you all posted....

Hi and well done on facing things. That's sometimes the hardest part.
Certainly ditch your dmp company - try CCCS, Payplan, CAB or National Debtline who won't charge a fee for a dmp and will act in your interests and not theirs. CCCS have a debt remedy on line tool you can use in the meantime - this will give you an idea of the best thing for you before you call them.
Good luck and keep posting.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

            Hi Soulbouy
well done for taking control of your debts.
We are with payplan who have been fantastic, however many people are also with cccs and speak highly of them.
why dont you post a SOA [statement of affairs] which lists your income and outgoings , often people are able to help advise you on how to save money and become debt free quicker
good luck0 -
            Hi ald65,
I'm just looking through the Payplan dtails at the moment. As for the statement of affairs, i'll post one soon as although it'll change dramatically in 2 weeks, what with the new job. I've been doing my sums recently and think (hope...;)) that i'll be able to get debt free in 2-3 years. However, i'm going to push closer to 2...
Thanks for all the advice so far.
