slow cooker

Just wondering if you think it would be worthwhile for me to buy one of these? I lead a very busy life. Both OH and I work fulltime and several nights a week and on weekends we are taking our two kids to their various activities. I am not a great cook, well having said that its not that I'm not a good cook more that I have just never really tried. We are a ready prepared type of family but I am wanting to change that but am limited with time. So with that in mind, would it be beneficial for me to purchase a slow cooker. I have seen 3.5 litre ones in argos however they don't look very big. There are also 6.5 litre ones which I would imagine I would have leftovers to freeze. What do you all think?

I would definitely buy one, i don't know where i would be without mine.
They so simple to use and are really cheap too. But there are very versatile from cooking soups to jackpot potatoes.

I bought the white argos cookworks one too and its been brill. Just put on at 7:30 am and by 5:30pm a fully cooked steaming hot meal ready to eat.

Slow cookers are invaluable to the busy household.

You virtually just chuck everything in and leave it to get on with it.

You can cook chickens and joints in it too as well as casseroles.

I saw some rather nice ones in Tesco today and about £17.00.

Go for it, you wont regret it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • What size do you recommend (family of 4 but would prob like to freeze as I go as well)?

6.5 litre one does us 8 portions easily, possibily more depending what it is (more if it's chilli, less if it's a casserole with meat/veg/spuds/dumplings)
One day I might be more organised...........

I love my slow cooker and I am not a good cook. I am limited in what I make, casseroles , stew and bolognaise but love it.

We are a large family (6) and to be honest found the large one to large. I would not have frozen stuff, shame on me. When mine had an accident I replaced it with a smaller one form Argos, their onw make and it does grat, I can make casserole for 6 in it no problem.

Not sure of the size but in the Argos catalogue its the larger out of the two white ones.
I'm pretty sure it's 3.5 litres for £11.65. (just checked now).WEre a family of four and makes more than enough for two separate meals.

I use it bulk make mince/veg and then freeze it.

Definitely go for the larger one OP. I got a smaller one, on offer from Argos and have lived to regret it. I mostly make chicken portions or diced pork or beef with chopped veg, bung in a tin of chopped tomatoes, add a tin of Tesco 5pence curry sauce and you are all set. Couldn't be easier. Lovely tasty meal with little effort.

    Good luck!
  • Thankyou all. You are a very helpful bunch. I think I will be hanging around the old style board for some time to come
