Bagel Slicer

Does anyone know where I can buy a Bagel slicer? There are some on Amazon but they cost £30. I'm an occasional bagel eater but want a proper slicer as i have twice cut myself cutting through the bagel. Anybody know where to get one for a bargain?

Considering getting one from eBay in america.

I slice my bagels perfectly well using a bread knife :D What am I missing about the need for a bagel slicer?

I cut myself just the once when slicing a Bagel - I was holding it in my left hand and cutting with the knife in my right hand - right onto the base of my left thumb . Not a mistake I wanted to make twice :(.

Have you tried holding your bagel flat on the breadboard with one hand holding it down firmly on top - the knife shouldn't go into your hand that way OR holding it upright on it's side and slicing downwards - bit more risky as it may roll while you're cutting it.

I love Bagels, but don't have them often enough to warrant a specialist Bagel Slicer.

I would say before investing in an expensive bagle slicer improve your knife skills. But you might be able to pick one up on e-bay or at a carboot sale if you really want one

Perhaps you got the replies that you did because you posted on the Old Style board and most people who post here will choose the Old Style option rather than spend money on a gadget to do such a simple job.

If you just want a recommendation for where to buy a bagel slicer you may get more help on the I wanna board so I'll move your thread over there.

Use your thumbs and rip it apart. No sliced open fingers. No worthless gadgets.

(Anyone know if there is anywhere you can still buy normal bagels - not the over-sized fluffy nonsense that supermarkets have ubiquitously infested on us?)
