when this sort of thing happened to me a couple of years ago, we were given an approximate date of the office shutting down but we had to wait a couple of months to be given our offical redundancy date.
If alot of people are affected (I think its more than 90) then there is a 3 month period that has to be followed even if one moment after the annoucement you decide you won't be following the work.
I do agree with Anihilator (now there's a first!) you can ask but there's little incentitive for them to agree to it, especially as the work still has to be done in the meantime2014 Target;
