The phone calls!!

Hi All

A little rant and maybe some advice please.

I am going down the road of BR, and to help save the fee and also to be able to feed myself i have been advised by the CAB to defalt on my payments. so far i have missed 2 months, the nasty letters i can handle, just put them in a file and not think about them, but somehow 1 company has gotten ahold of my mobile number and are ringing me all the time!!

the first time they rang me i answered, i didnt even think it would be anything to do with this as no company had my new mobile number. I got off the line as quick as possible telling them that the CAB will be in touch shortly.

Now they are ringing 3- 4 times a day, and each time they ring i ignore it. I know that they are ringing just to scare my into paying something i cant afford to pay, but they have just rang now and this time they have left a message!

Should i listen to the message or ignore it? the next time they ring should i answer?

i dont know if i am doing the right thing not not speaking to them but i really dont want to, they know i have sought help, so why keep ringing? i have nothing new to tell them.

thanks in advance

    Hi,

Firstly, there are more experienced people on this board that will advice you other than me but I have been dodging calls for nearly 2 years!

Listen to the message but don't take it to heart. You know you can't afford the payments so they will not get anything for their efforts.

Change your number again - I have had to change my mobile number 4 times this year - but as of today I don't need to worry anymore.

Don't be bullied by them or add extra stress onto yourself......save up the fees as soon as you can.

Finally - good luck, your not alone and there is a fantastic group of people on here that will support you and help with advice anyway they can.

I'm in the process of applying for a DRO and after being a customer of Nationwide for 11 years I have only missed one payment and that was due just on Monday, since then they have been calling my mobile at 9am and home phone throughout day.

I've just been ignoring it as difficult as it, i've been delting messages without listening as it only makes me worry more and I even went onto my account today and changed my numbers to old numbers, don't know whether that will work.

I'm just hoping it will stop soon if my DRO is approved (I find out Monday).

Good luck and I hope they stop calling soon.
  • Oh just wanted to add that I had spoken to Nationwide the first time they rang explained the situation (although I didn't say I've applied for a DRO) and even gave them my CCCS reference number but hasn't seemed to make a difference.

    Hi Angie2

We had months of calls before going BR. We had written to all creditors several times explaining our situation and drastic change of circumstances but they were not prepared to listen or help in any way whatsoever, despite an impeccable credit history having never missed a payment for anything.

In the end we stopped answering the phone to them having programmed them in to caller display, but it still may made my heart sink every time the phone rang.

The CAB knew we would be going BR but offered to write to our creditors with the same information and financial statement we had already sent them to buy us some time while we planned the BR, and it wasnt until they did this that the relentless calls and harrassment stopped. All of a sudden they were prepared to negotiate, but too little too late and we went BR.

If I was you I would ignore their calls, I know its easier said than done but concentrate on your plans for BR and maybe change your number. Alot of times it will be an automated machine ringing your number on the chance you pick up, despicable behaviour but they dont care.

Good luck hun, keep us updated.

  • The relentless phone calls to our house began in December - after nearly 2 months of it, you get used to just ignoring it altogether :o. I am away to look into caller display for mine, and luckily none of our creditors have our mobile phone numbers.

If you're getting calls to your mobile, and you know which ones are from creditors, do you have an ignore or block function on your handset so you can just block those particular numbers?

Oh didn't know that ontheroad, I'm going to check my mobile for a block function. Thank you.
  • Easiest ways

    a) Unplug phone
    b) Change number
    c) Get rid of phone for now and get a payg and give your number to friends and family only.

Life is sometimes a bit pants but occasionally you can wear your french knickers! :D
  • Nationwide were ruthless with us, change your number!! They did also without trying to worry you send someone out to assess the situation. And then immediately went for a ccj and charging order. Even though we were under a dmp.

Go bankrupt sooner rather than later, the stress of it all isn't worth it

  • Thanks everyone!

I know its not a massive problem but it does get to me, they haven't rang today so far, so maybe they got the message!
  • Have some hope the calls for me stopped only a few days afterwards, but maybe that was because I was answering the phone with enthusiaism saying "Rays Butchers, you stab them we slab them!" :) LOL I Thought what was the harm, they had been driving me crazy for weeks! NewStart09
