It's the extent of the distribution which is being highlighting, not simply the trend.
The trend DOES highlight the extent of the distribution!

Of course, the government could redistribute this wealth, to ensure that no one then saves money for when they retire, and ensure they never pay off their mortgage in case thet get hammered by the taxman for owning a house. :D

And incidentally, it would certainly get the economy surging if all the silver surfer generation start spunking their savings to prevent Brown/Cameron getting their grubby mitts on it! :D

A distribution is far more complex than a trend.

Redistribution of wealth is a difficult one, it will always upset someone. Need to change something though otherwise the young generation will have to move abroad in hope of a better standard of living and property ownership.

Yes. Usually those with the wealth.

Probably not a coincidence that the biggest proponents of collectivism or wealth redistribution, are the individuals who stand to make the most personal gain from it.

I'm Gen-X, as are all my friends, and almost all of us are wealthier than our parents, the boomers.....

I feel shafted by couples of all generations, the way they can accumulate and compound opportunity and wealth from being able to share a life/costs and push up mortgage 'affordability' through two salaries being used.

    :P

Thought it was pretty clear, actually.....
    Born between 1970 and 2000?

Then you’re stuffed, pal. Accept it.

Except we all were born there or thereabouts...... And we aren't.

It's all a bit defeatist isnt it?

The younger generation have time on their side.

Ambition; ingenuity; the ability to exploit this expensive degree education so many have acquired; real mobility of work around Europe and elsewhere.

It's all in their hands. I know because I've seen the government tv advert.

I think we, (I'm thirty) can see that our parents were (on average) alright, because we see how their lives have played out. For them, at the time...power outages, mines closing etc, it must have been pretty scary at times. They must have felt as we do at times.

Of course, whether we follow their luck in the end, or whether we end up heading into disaster...and it happens, we can't tell. Hope for the best, plan for the worst. :)

I think a great many feel that they are worse off than the next person, of whatever age and for whatever reason. It's individual and everyone's situation is different.

The reason that house prices went so high is down to government policies and economic forces, not to any group of people in the population. It should not have happened but it did. The man in the street had no control and cannot bear the blame.

Anyone who benefits financially, for whatever reason, is not likely to regret their good fortune, whether old, young or in-between. That will apply to this generation, the next and the next............
