Morning Old stylers!
Thought I would venture over here to say that thanks for the inspiration in the kitchen, (I am going to work on my first meal plan later). I love to cook, but I also ahem, love cake mixes.
I can make cake, and do a proper cake every now and again but theres nothing better than slinging a cake mix in a bowl, (betty crocker chocolate fudge, better than Delia's!)shhhhh! with the eggs, and water etc, and you get a perfect cake, which stays moist and yummy for ages (mine kept in the fridge for a week-its huge and there are only 2 of us)and the last slice was as good as the first.
I made the carrot cake this morning, and judging by the taste of the batter, its going to be lush.:p
Also is Moneysaving, because the cost of the cake mix and icing is the same as the cost of one slice of cake at starbucks!

Well definitely better than Starbucks! I'm not a fan of packet mixes but mainly because of the "gunk" in them by way of preservatives etc. But life is a compromise, and better that you are baking than not, so I wouldn't beat yourself up about it!Piglet

I've used the betty crocker devil's food choc fudge cake once before and omg, it was amazing. Lasted ages only started to get a bit dry on the last few slices because I forgot to cover it up. Really want to buy another of these now lol, having worked as a dessert and cake chef this is most definitely cheating but it's so good! lol£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

Cake mixes make me sad
All those preservatives! I appreciate they probably have a use when cake is essential and time/money is tight, but otherwise I firmly believe there is NO substitute for homemade baked goods made from scratch

I completely appreciate what people are saying about preservatives, but when you have a small family sometimes you want your cake to last longer, because it won't get polished off by the kids. Like when i make bread, it never tastes as good the next day, and it gets wasted.
Plus, when i did make the delia fudge cake, with wholemeal flour, it cost a fortune, with the 70% cocoa chocolate and what not. I am not trying to suggest that these mixes are made with high quality ingredients, but they taste like they are; and thats ok with me.
I am a big fan of the coffee house culture and have eaten many a slice of cake without knowing what's in it. This is a fair compromise for me, because its cheaper.0 -

I haven't used cake mixes for ages, but if you enjoy them and are happy to eat them, then go for it
I might have to try a betty crocker fudge cake mix now I've seen the reviews
There are OS things that I can't do and some I choose not to do but I've never seen OS as a competition; I do what I can and what suits me, what pleases me - that's enough for me
... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
