Another question! About bands this time!

:) Is it possible to have a band and a DJ? How does it work usually?
We have already got a DJ we have paid deposit for and definitely having, but were thinking of having a band, possibly to do an hour before the DJ?
Has anyone booked any bands before, I only want an hour, not really willing to pay more than £400 for that amount of time.
I wanted Take That but the OH said no! He wants Frank Sinatra (obv not the real thing!), but may just go for a band who do a variety? V confused now!

We're payng £400 for a 3-piece band to do 2 x 45m sets, plus they play music through their PA.
  • Hi, I contacted a local band and they were charging £850 for an 1hour 45 minute set and this was the minimum amount of time they would perform for. For something like £1400 they would do the whole day providing backing music during the meal, microphones for speeches, a dj disco type thing and then their set followed by more disco. I didn't get quotes from anyone else so not sure if this is average or ridiculous!
  • Aggr! Seems impossible. I wonder if all bands do set times or if they will vary.

Very much doubt that you will get a band to play for an hour, they usually do a 2hour set. A ratpack type singer (frank sinatra type music) can set you back around £800, band prices do vary - have a look at function junction https://www.functionjunction.co.uk as they have lots of entertainers listed. If for instance you had Soprano Bella (singing chefs etc) then their fee is around £2500, Take That are around £10K plus (if you want an idea of how much they cost I can ask their manager:eek: - I just knew that being a manager myself would come in handy:cool:)

Hi, we're having both a band and a DJ, the band cost £400 for two 45 minute slots. They are both going to be setting up in the same area, so that the band can use the lights of the disco etc. We're having the disco play the first song, and as soon as that finishes the band will start with there first 45 minute slot. We will then have the disco, and have the band on later to finish off :) Hope that helps x
  • I dont know where you live, but you could contact places such as the Academy of Contempory Music, or Universitys with Contempoary music courses. Loads of students have bands and are desperate to play, you do get the occasional ones that have an odd taste but most will cater for any music as they just enjoy playing, and am pretty sure it will come under £400. They should also have all their equitment they need. A friend of mine got a band from here, gave them an idea of music they wanted, and they played for 2 to 3 hours at an engagement party for about £400. May not suit everyone, but could be an idea to suit, especially if you know what music you would like.

    Daughter had a band

And the lad who was in the band did the disco after, well it is all done by laptop now

We started the buffet at 8.45pm, this took an hour as there was nearly 300 people there, and we didn't want the band to stop and people be eating then them come back on.

The band came on at 9.45pm and did till 11.15pm, they had the dance floor buzzing, with all sorts of fab songs, then with all of their equipment still on stage they put their lights on and the one of the lads did a disco.

Which resulted in my daughter stood on a chair in the middle of the dance floor, and playing cheesy songs like the music man, and it was brilliant.
We also had lads v girls dance off, to dirty dancing.

I personally don't like breaks in bands as i find it hard to get back into the swing of the band.
But it is down to everyones personal choice.

Our band charges £500 and that was for the band and disco, they are fab, we are rugby league supporters and this band do loads of rugby do's and play for the players testimonials.

    enjoy

Oh has just veto'd me asking you to book them for me :D
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:
  • We're having an 8 piece band and no dj but that is mainly due to lack of space. The band we're having take about an hour to set up so they definitely wouldn't play for an hour, they're doing 3 45 minute sets. Annoying thing is my BIL is a dj so it wouldn't cost us anything but just no room :(
