consent to lease

Options
We got a consent to lease from halifax last may, on the paperwork its for 1 year, however we paid £1000 product fee and moved to consent to lease mortgage which is a 3 year product.

We are going back to live in the property in march which is fine because its before the year is up.

Question is what wil happen to mortgage? will we stay on consent to lease for another 2 years, or will it automatically change to variable rate etc?

Thanx

would you agree the best people to tell you what's what are the Halifax......0845 6018162
  • Yes i know halifax would be able to help more, but the mortgage is in my partners name only and he is at work, just trying to budget for when we move home thats all

  • We've got a mortgage with the Halifax too and have a consent to lease. A consent to lease is not a mortgage in it's own right, it's just permission for you to rent the property out. The product you have for the 3 years will still stand, but the only difference I can see it making is in your insurance.

Halifax won't be able to tell you details of your partners mortgage but they should be able to discuss whta would happen in general - I'm making an assumption (I know you should never assume) that the process would be the same for everyone in your partners position.
  • Hi Karen, the gentleman from the branch that gave us the consent to lease has just rang me back and we can stay on the same mortgage, its always been a joint home but mortgage is not in my name due to my credit rating at the time, but my partner signed a form last time we were in the branch to say they can discuss the mortgage with me

    thanks for your replies :)
