recipes with cost per serve

Hi there

Anyone know of any good websites that are free to either offer recipes with cost per serve on them or that help you work out an average cost per serve?

Thanks in advance if you can help!

    Hi there

Good luck with your web search, i am sure someone in the know will be along in a minute.

Here - i would look at MBAZ thread on feed family of 4 for £20 as there are some recipes costed out there.

Otherwise - type "Shirley Goode" in google and check out her blog - she is good at costing out thrifty recipes, and was queen of money saving in the 1980's.

    Best Wishes

    Hi tabskitten,

I use this website to calculate the cost of recipes. It's in dollars but if you enter the cost of your ingredients in pounds and pence the result will also be in pounds and pence (just disregard the dollar sign).

To find out the cost per serving I then divide by the number of people eating.

    Shirley Goode is well .....good!
but be very careful on some sites - they are costed out so effeciently they end up costing you more! let me explain - where an ingredient is costed out as say 15 pence for a tablespoon of sweetcorn - you have opened a tin of sweetcorn costing 50p......... unless you know you can use the rest of it........then the actual costing should be 50p!
or the recipe calls for four sausages - unless you can buy four sausages then you need to use up the other four!
its nice to know the ball park figure for a recipe, but my own personal challenge is to shop wisely and see how much less i can do it for!!!

When you look at the recipies that they have in the likes of the Asda or Morrisons magazine they often show a price per serving So if you go into their websites maybe you'll find something.
