Software development for big money ideas!

Hi guys- I've been a loooooooong time reader of MSE, and have used a lot of information. Strangely, I thought I was being quite savvy with money, but realised recently than I haven't... I'm trying to cut down the debt I do have, but also work something for the other side and increase what I make.

After reading through this site, I realised some people have some ideas for money making on the side (a great idea!) and I have some web development skills, a lot of web applications, search engine optimisation, databases etc. I thought that maybe there are some MSEs out there who have the ideas but not the skill in this area, maybe it's useful? Maybe there are bartering opportunities?

cheers

  • Would you be able to tell me (either here or in a PM) what sort of experience you have? I like the idea of a joint venture.

I come from a software background, so generally writing software, databases, web applications. I mainly work with Microsoft ASP.NET (C#), SQL Server and JavaScript. I'd say I have a mixture of skills covering the whole development process, though mainly at the "doing" side rather than the visuals.

I've got experience of a lot of other things too (PHP, mysql, C++ etc.), but I use the above every day, been working in software since I graduated, and ideally would do more for myself!
  • Can I jump on this too?

I also come from a software background gaining a 2:1 in software Engineering though i come from the other side of the fence Java, Jsp, Gwt, Spring, Oracle 9i/10g, MQ Message broker also becoming qualified as a Six Sigma yellow belt and studying a Masters with the Open Uni. Got over 5 Year full time experience in an software asset optimisation business

This interests me also. Years and years ago I programmed but now my skills set in in e-comms, strategy, design. I work for a large ad agency managing their European digital programme.

I have a couple of personal projects, which I think are cracking ideas, that I'd love to collaborate on with a developer.

One for twitter, one multi platform for starters.

How do we kick this off?
  • PM perhaps we can chat and see if our skills match your needs, not sure for twitter but java is the way to go for multiplatform
  • Depends on what you want to do, some multi-platform stuff is best delivered through the web as you can view it on your iPhone/PC/mac/fridge/watch/PDA/laptop/TV etc. if it is special software then Java (or some other languages) can cover a few platforms.

I work in online doing SEO and PPC stuff at the moment (or programming for it), so maybe we share more skills than we thought.

I think PM or set up something away from here maybe, as I am sure that the techy stuff might get too dull for MSE's!!

I am happy to help anyone with any questions or ideas.
