Hi mum2bean,
You mght be entitled to maternity allowance, even though you;re not working now. I stopped work in jan, and am due in Sept and I will receive it. I'm not sure of the exact rules, but if you do a new thread on the benefits forum someone will be along to help with more info. You can also check a website called www.entitledto.co.uk which gives loads of information, and the www.direct.gov website which also has lots of info.
Good luck.

OP, have you tried ebay? I did a maternity bundle 18 search and loads of stuff came up - but check postage before bidding or search for somewhere within 10 miles of your postcode and you can pick it up

Primark now go up to a 20/22 in a few things- I have been wearing their black 'bottoms for tops' pj bottoms for a couple of months- they were cheap but are v stretchy and have been very comfy.
I went in yesterday to buy the 'tops for bottoms' as they do vests with buttons for £2.00 each which fit well and button down enough for breastfeeding. I am planning to wear both together over the next few weeks after my induction tomorrow.
I bought most of my maternity stuff in various sales in asda, it has all lasted well and kept its shape so have been really pleased with it.:jMummy to 2 small 4 year old bundles of mischief!:j0 -
Oh I didnt know asda did some maternity wear, will have a look at that. Does anyone know if they do party type dresses? got an 18th to go to soon. Thanks for the thread guys there are some brilliant ideas and hints on here.
I'm only 14 weeks pregnant and my belly started growing around 7 weeks, will be my 3rd child so ordered some maternity wear from next, 3 jeans/bottoms £30 and pair of jeans and 4 tshirts in new look came in about the same price in the sale. I begrudge paying full price for 7 months of wear!!0 -

asos is good for maternity dresses and they usually have a good sale on.
I bought a non-maternity dress for a party when I was 26 weeks pg and it fitted fine - just had a puffy bit to go over bump.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

so what you gonna do when the baby comes along moneys gonna be even tighter
It won't be.. as I already said you get child benefit and tax credits and maybe increased benefits if neither parent is working.. you get money for the baby..
I once totted up how much I'd have to spend to buy stuff for a new baby before it was born.. therefore before I had any income designated for baby needs.. over the 9 months of pregnancy I'd have to spend around £2000 just on baby stuff that doesn't leave a great deal for an extra £300 for clothes you are going to wear for 5-6 months!
your partner may have 3 children but you got off lightly by not having to fund the buying of the baby stuff and afford to pay bills and eat as well!
I found subsequent pregnancies hard too.. though I already had some baby stuff, but you always need other stuff.. double pushchair, toiletries, nappies etc.. and maternity stuff if I did need something (usually bras! or different season) one of the children would need shoes.. and they come first..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but Asda do some basic t-shirts in black or white, short or long sleeve for £1.50, they are in plastic packets. Theyre not bad, I bought some for work recently.Weight loss November 09-January 10: [STRIKE]13lbs[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]20lbs[/STRIKE] 27lbs! :j0

I went to dorothy perkins today and found a maternity t shirt for £3 :j. Got measured in m&s for a bra but not only were they expensive but not very nice so I'll keep looking. After that I was so exhausted and had a bit of pelvic pain that I headed home. I am trying out all your great ideas....I love mse'ers :T Thanks so much to those who have offered to send me clothes. I really appreciate your generosity but I'm a bit reluctant to give out my details to people I don't know, I hope you understand and don't take offence.
I'll ignore the 2 who implied we won't be able to afford to support our child ....I didn't realise only wealthy people had children!0 -
Lala, whereabouts are you?
Ive got quite a few Next jersey maternity tops in an 18 (5 at least), 2 pairs of New Look jeans in 18's and New Look black cargo pants in an 18.
We're moving in a few weeks so you can have them if you want, or if you aren't anywhere near me, if you'd just pay the postage, I'd quite happily send them along to you xTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Do check the NCT nearly new sales - March is a good month for them in most counties I think. Also good for baby basics, and they don't let anyone sell tat.0
