    Hmm - Google hacked, weapons to Taiwan, Dalai Llama to the White House, China selling US bonds, Japan buying them - games are afoot methinks. China have a strong hand methinks - who suffers more if the global financial markets are destabilised and politically spooked.

    Well a revaluation of the US$ and an appreciation of the RMB really wouldn't be a bad thing.

    Its about time their currency traded at a more appropriate level, and certainly a depreciation of the US$ would do an enormous lot to help pulling them out of the quagmire.

    I don't understand why we bought 24 billion US debt? Surely we could have used that to pay down our own debt?? Except we don't have 24 billion... do we????

    They are not necessarily referring to the U.K. Government.

  • USA is Britaina largest trading partner so holding bonds to balance trade makes some sense
