My story is identical..
Managed to get through this morning at 8:30 - after phoning a couple of times and being disconnected on 0845 3000 627.
Sorted now (hopefully). They say it's happened to a lot of people - getting D0 when they should have BR. The will send out the right code to employer and pension provider and it should right itself at the end of May.
In my OH's case, it appears to be because he is above retirement age but is still working. I notice that D0 has even been applied to a small pension of £60 a month!
It appeared that him working for the same employer who is also paying him a pension confuses things.
From Googling this issue, it appears to have affected mostly people receiving pensions.
I found this page useful:

There's a link partway down to find your tax office's number:
Phone line is open from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, Monday to Friday
8.00 am to 4.00 pm Saturday¿Alguien ha visto a mi nave espacial?
Biting is excellent. It's like kissing, only there's a winner.0 -

It is more than confusing enough in my case receiving a salary attached with one tax office, and receiving a pension attached with a different tax office.
What are the chances of them talking to each other?? :rotfl::rotfl:0
