Question about a Party after a wedding abroad

Hi everyone

Me and oh are getting married in New York on the 2nd or 3rd of December this year and we will be rerurning about the 5th or 6th, We have about 13 people coming out with us but when we get back we want to throw a party for all of our family and friends.

Ive had a nghtmare trying to find a venue i like as being a local girl there are so many places that are in areas i dont like and the i dont want a wedding reception type venue (large country houses, halls)and we want to do our own catering and to top it all ive done a provisional guest list and its approx 200 (and that including not inviting family i'm not close to & friends i dont really see).

Right sorry for the waffle heres my question, ive found a venue i like, the local football stadium, it can accomdate the guests and i can arrange my own catering but as its xmas party season theres no way i can have it any friday os saturday in December. I can have January any date but what does everybody think abou the time gap between us getting back and the party.

im trying to put a positive spin on it as it will give everyone something to look forward to after xmas but i cant make my mid up

Thanks x

  • I think January is a great idea, everyone will be relaxed and possibly a bit bored after christmas with only the thought of going back to work. It will be nice to celebrate the new year and your marriage, plus prices of venues will be much cheaper - lets face it December is so expensive!

I think having it in January will be fine. You'll have time to get organised after returning from New York (sounds fab!), if you were having it straight after you may feel a little rushed to get everything ready? You've got plenty time this way to get your photos printed to show everyone and get all your decorations sorted.

If you have it in December a lot of people may be tied up with Christmas dos themselves so they'll probably prefer for it to be in January, you'll be doing them a favour! :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

I think January (or even February) would be good....why not have it a month (or two) to the day that you get married (if that works out??)

It will give everyone something to look forward to after Christmas and (thinking MSE) give them chance to find new outfits in the sales...!!
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

  • Thanks everyone, i feel loads better now. Just waiting for the venue to get back to me to tell me exactly what dates they've got free in Jan so i can get cracking.

When i think about it, it would have been a bit of a nightmare as we would have returned from New York on the 5th dec, step daughters 18th birthday on the 11th, reception on the 18th and xmas the week after. Phew to much to think about!!!!

Hopefully they'll have either the 15th or 22nd Jan xx

That's exactly what we are doing. We leave for Italy on 2nd April, get married on 14th, return home on 24th. Then we are having our party on 15th May as we have other commitments on the weekends in between (plus it means we get to celebrate that bit longer) :j
  • We get back from our wedding abroad on the Wed and our do is on the Sat but I wished id left it a few weeks so we could get out breath back.

I think leaving it till the Jan will be great, it gives everyone something to look forward to in misrable January...My only concern would be that people tend to hibernate in Jan coz theyr skint after Xmas.

    Good luck xxx
