Beware - your venue fees MAY go up...

Just as a heads-up to everyone - we have just received a letter to say that the fee for our wedding - booked on 12 January 2010 for 3 September 2010 - has been increased by 3%. Now that may not seem a lot, but it is more than my pay rise this year, and more than inflation has been recently. Annoying thing is that we weren't told of the pending increase when we booked....yet 4 weeks later they are sending letters out

Our wedding is to be in the local Town Hall, so the fee includes the Registrar AND venue.

I got an assurance when I booked in sep 2009 for oct 2010, that my prices would NOT increase. I can imagine that as council run premises that they would not be allowed to do this as its 'tax payers' money. But they should have told you, may be worth a 'nice' letter of complaint to explain how disappointed you are at not being informed, you never know they 'may' agree to honour price quoted.

It's a standard "Fees & Charges" increase across the council - even funerals are going up by the same amount.

Letter already on its way ;)

I hope your letter does some good, they really should have told you when you booked! When I booked our registrar they said to expect an increase in price for a 2010 wedding, even though we booked it in 2009. Lucky for us though when I rang to check they said it hadn't been increased this year ;)

Indeed - fees usually are changed on 1st April each year, so you should have been pre warned - if you weren't, then that is a bit naughty.
Hope your letter gets a result...!
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

  • Hoping we won't get a price increase, i presumed we get the price quoted on the day of booking. The info we had when we paid the deposit says all prices include vat at 17.5% so they at least can't put it up because of that.
  • if you're on about the registrar fees floss I only booked mine 2 days ago for december and they told me about the price increase because when she said how much it would be i told her she was wrong because the website showed a lower price and she told me then it would be increasing on 1st april. It's annoying isn't it, really if you book before april they should give you the lower price.

We knew when we booked last year that the amount would go up in April.

I'd researched it but we were told too when we gave our notice.

I haven't heard anything about an increase in the registrar's fees, either at the time of booking or by letter - worrying as I suspect Floss and I are using the same people..

Our venue, on the other hand, warned us that fees *may* go up for 2010 - although they gave us parameters for budgetting. We have had the new prices and were relieved that despite a change of ownership, the only thing to have changed was the drinks package and I think that is a VAT thing.
