Hi folks,
I've been in my current job for nearly three years now and have had no pay rise in that time. Have just asked my boss, only for the second time, if it would be possible to have one and he is going to talk to the top boss about it, but it doesn't sound likely to happen.
I know these are hard times for a lot of companies, but I know the company is doing fairly well.
The company doesn't do reviews or pay reviews. I can tell you that it's not because of poor performance that I've not had a pay increase, as I have had a promotion in that time (with no extra pay of course, so just a better job title really, but at least it looks good on the CV
) and have had good feedback from people.
I'm just getting frustrated that with everything costing more year on year I'm not getting any more money. Even a token £500 would be appreciated!
Now don't get me wrong, I like my job, the pay is reasonable and I really do appreciate having a job in these tough times. But from talking to other people, I get the impression that pay rises just aren't the done thing here.
So, do you think it is time to go on to pastures new?

Definitely time to move on to pastures new, Its hard times for some companies, recession or no recession some companies are doing very well. Not having a payrise in 3 years would have me actively looking for another role.
Its well known in the public sector the only real way of getting a raise to is to leave and come back to another role.0 -
It really depends on your age and career stage
I would suggest that people of a younger age/lower career stage should be looking for some form of progress in career every 2-3 years which you seem to have. As you move up this becomes a longer time gap
I would suggest though the grass isnt always greener, you have a solid secure job with what seems a good job title and whilst the salary isnt increasing it isnt the right time to expect this.
I would say unless you find an exceptional career progress job stay and ask for a payrise every year ensuring your work demonstrates that it is reasonable.0 -

Guess I should count myself lucky I HAVE a job. Just think at times my company uses the credit crunch as an excuse not to have to pay people any more.
its the times we are livivng in im affraid. we wont gewt a payrise for 2 or 3 years, the UK is in a mess so im sure its better to have a job rather than argue about a payrise and to be honest you would proberly only see a few quid extra in your pay anyway.

In that case; keep your eye open but certainly don't give up a job at the moment.0 -

Life's a !!!!! and then you marry one eh?! Well, my hubby did anyway LOL
That's true about how much extra it would amount to, though. £1,000 sounds like a lot of money, but wouldn't be much per month after the taxman had been at it.
Ho hum. *Trots out of the office to buy lottery ticket*0 -

If you have not had a payrise in 3 years, and have had a promotion in that time, then yes I would be looking for another job.0
