A Couple of Questions

Hi peeps,
Sort of a mini wedding thread with a few questions that I am not sure where to go with and hoping someone can help!!!
1) We are hiring a vintage coach for our wedding guests to be collected from the 2 hotels, and then onto ceremony and then reception. Now, for £300 what do you think our haggling options are? Bearing in mind he wont cover more than 3 miles for our trip. Do you think we should ask him to then take everyone home for that price? Again 3 mile trip. He is based 6 miles away in Carlisle.
2) When should my make up lady be applying my makeup? One lady has said she will arrive an hour before, and to me that one hour is the time I will be hyperventilating with a paramedic on stand by! That last hour just feels to me to be important calming time. Not OMG my foundation is orange or something!! I also have 1 corset to put on and a corset wedding dress and with my mother - it isnt an easy task!!!
3) Do I cleanse tone and moisturise my face before she arrives? Or does she do that?
4) What is the connotation regarding wearing a garter? I dont really want to but if it's a done thing I shall go and buy one!!!!
5) Is wedding insurance a neccessity? We have pretty much booked everything, has everyone else done this?
For now I think that is it, and I appreciate all your helps in advance, there are so many little minute things that are creeping up and my head is spinning!
If you have got this far reading my thread I appreciate it, and you guys are stars xxxx

Hi, get wedding insurance!! Even if you only go for the cheap as chips as I have. If your venue burns down the night before you will at least be able to claim money back for finding a new one!
Think the garter thing is a take it or leave it, I know in the US the groom takes it off with his teeth *shudders* I'd rather not have OH up my dress for everyone to see
At your make up trail the lady will explain timings, hers seem a 'bit' close. Mine is arriving at 1.30pm for a 3.30pm service.
I have haggled for everything, don't ask, don't get
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Wedding insurance although not a necessity is recommended for just in case moments - what if the venue has double booked or the photographer cancels - it wont cover you if you change your mind though. Think of it like car insurance - you have it for just in case something goes bad and then you are thankful that you are covered. Don't take it as read that just because everything has been booked that one of the companies doesnt go bust (I am not saying that they will go bust) as there examples on this forum of companies leaving brides high and dry e.g the Royles thread.
Bear in mind that you have ordered a vintage coach and it won't travel more than 3 miles - he is doing pick ups at 2 hotels and will be taking folks to the ceremony and reception. Vintage coaches tend to be looked after and won't travel over a certain distance. I don't think that you will have enough negotiating power because you have booked a vintage vehicle. Taking folks back to their hotels can be tricky as they all may not want to leave at once.
I would cleanse, tone and moisturise your face anyway and tell the makeup artiste that you want her there at x time, an hour before you set off is fine but say you want her there an hour and half before you go. Do you have anyone else to assist you with your corset other than your mum? Get an older bridesmaid to help. The corset tends not to go on over your head and nor does the dress so you won't need to worry about getting makeup on it as the makeup artiste will put something around you to protect your clothes. Also you won't have orange foundation because you will have had a taster session beforehand and a foundation will be picked to match your skin tone - you could provide your own foundation.
If you dont want to wear a garter then don't - I think its an old superstition like throwing your bouquet...not all brides wear garters.0 -
Thanks Franny and Horace. The wedding insurance I wasnt sure if you have to have it before you book things for it to apply, but if not then yes I should. I agree, there are so many things that could go wrong, so ok, will book it tonight - GRRRR lol.
I will ask OH to try an haggle with the coach and see what happens. I know they take alot of work to care for and look after so appreciate the cost, but just feel he offers that price for services that take up more time and incur more cost.
Franny - LOL at the thought of the garter taking off bit. I think it is rather cringey!! I mean - for me its like a huge building construction under that dress! I dont want folk to see it all!!!!
Horace - good idea, I will ask someone else to help as I know my mum is going to stress me out when she puts it on (bless her!). I'm just embarrassed about my flabby bits and only trust her and OH but I'll sacrifice that if it means not getting too stressed.
My problem with make up lady is there will be no trial. We are getting married up in Scotland and are from Essex. SO will not be able to do this
Franny - 2 hours to me seems more of a sensible time. I am going to have to specify an hour is not enough time and put my foot down.
Thanks for your help things are starting to look clearer xxxxx0 -
Also - perhaps get your corset on before your make up - this will give you a bit more time to get used to wearing it - and less stress if your make up takes a bit longer...!!
Like everyone else has said - defo get the insurance, for peace of mind if nothing else...!Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
