Sushi rice - is it like pudding rice?

Afternoon all,
I have finally got round to clearing out after having a house guest with exotic tastes and have come across a bag of out of date (BB May 05) Sushi rice.
The ingredients read: Milled Rice. It looks a bit like pudding rice. I don't want to make sushi and I only really like basmati rice with meals so was wondering if it would cook the same as pudding rice in rice pudding? I'd rather not waste the milk and have the oven on for 2 hours if it is likely to "act" differently.
Does anyone know? And do you think the BB date is a problem?
Thanks in advance
Sparkly

Hi Sparkly,
I think you should be ok with the rice despite the BB date. Sushi rice is essentially just a firm, short-grained sticky rice. I tend to make rice pudding on the hob, as a kind of sweet risotto:
Melt a knob of butter in a saucepan, add the rice (I don't rinse it - you want the starch to make it creamy) and turn it in the melted butter. Add the milk and vanilla pod, nutmeg or cinnamon stick if you'd like, and stir until the milk has been absorbed, and the rice is tender and creamy.

Well I've read somewhere that you can use pudding rice to make Sushi so I suppose it would be ok.
Don't know about the out of date bit. The "Best Before" is only a guideline I suppose it it looks or smells funny don't use.

Thanks you two - I think I will give it a go
