I was hoping you lovely ladies could help put my mind at ease.
I ordered my dress from an American company in September (designerbridalbargains on ebay, same company as bridalgown.net).
Their website says you should allow 14-16 weeks for the dress to come from the supplier. I was originally told the ETA to them was 2nd February. Well, it's now the 18th - 20 weeks since I placed the order and they haven't received the dress yet. I emailed them a couple of weeks ago and they said
"Your gown has not arrived yet but please keep in mind that dates are estimates because these are made to order gowns, as discussed on our website. Delays this time of year are not uncommon. Based on other arrivals, I anticipate it could be a few more weeks. Rest assured we are watching your order closely and will ship as quickly as possible."
This seems perfectly reasonable I suppose and I haven't been able to find any bad reviews of the company. Should I just leave it a week or two before emailing them again? I keep going through all these scenarios in my head where I find out I'm not going to get my dress and need to find a last-minute replacement. My wedding is not til May so I've still got plenty of time to get alterations done, etc.

How long is a few more weeks though? 4? 6? If 6, then you would receiving it at the end of March, not leaving a long time before the wedding.
Does the dress go to them, then they send it to you? If so, that will be even more time you'll be waiting.
I'd keep on their heels!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
maybe ask them if they could get it sent straight to you to avoide the delay of it going to them and then to you?
I wouldnt worry too much right now, but I would email them weekly for updates on the delivery
Its your wedding and Im sure they will understand that you will be anquish about getting your dress on time
Married on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -
Keep a record of any calls, emails, letters, then if something does go wrong, the ball is in your court.
I would personally keep asking and asking, give them a deadline and tell them if it isn't sent to you by then you will be requesting a full refend, false promises/advertising etc0 -
Thanks, you're all right - I should email for another update and keep at them until there's some progress. I don't know why I worry so much that I'll annoy someone who I'm never in my life going to meet!0

You're never going to meet them, but they have your dress (or not!), so definitely keep it nice and polite. I'm sure you would anyway, but always worth saying.
For what it's worth I wouldn't be too worried yet. Though I keep having nightmares that it's my wedding day and I forgot to make the cake etc! It is all a worry xxDebt at highest Nov '06 £17,822.98

Thanks everyone for all the advice.
I did send another email chasing and they sent me a very detailed response about the Maggie Sottero process - the dresses are made in china then shipped to the US, checked over etc. Apparently there was a backlog in the factory in China which caused the delay.
Anyway - I got my dress today and have lots of time to spare! :j
I guess the moral of the story is to allow plenty of time when ordering things off the internet. Their website quoted 14-16 weeks but it actually took 27!
At least it all worked out in the end (provided it fits! Will have to get a friend to help me try it on).0 -
How is the finished quality? Is it good or can you see it's been made in china? What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

It's a genuine Maggie Sottero - apparently all their dresses are made in China! Quality looks very good to me but I haven't inspected it that closely. I'm not sure how Maggie Sottero quality in general compares to other, more expensive, companies.0 -
Glad you got your dress!
I got my Maggie Sottero dress from America too (this was 6 years ago though!). I didn't think it was going to come at all, it was so late.
I think it arrived with just under a month to spare, by which time I had a back up just in case! :rotfl: (this was after ordering bridesmaid dresses from another American website who cancelled the order and didn't tell me, only found out 2 months before the wedding after enquiring when they would be delivered, and had a mad dash to Debenhams with my bridesmaids to get something else in time.)
Oh, and the Scottish shop I'd tried to get my dress from told me it came in Diamond White (which it didn't) then ordered the dress in pure white (which I'd told them I really didn't want and with the wrong coloured beading!! Needless to say I cancelled and that's why I ordered it from America.
The quality is (or used to be anyway) good, better than some others.
This is a rambling first post!

My dress is also an original Maggie Sottero, and does say made in china on the label inside, but the quality is lovely!!! Can't wait to wear mine!!!! :j0
