Mortgage advisors in branches have no interest in seeing retentions as there is no points in it for them! if you were looking to borrow more money or do some sort of protection policy then the MA would want to see you!

house is worth £320,000 today anyway... mortgage £160k so LTV no issue, thanks for the advice will go into a branch and see what offers there are, after that adios santander.

I agree that this seems to be general practice in some places but you can't tar them all with the same brush. There are some who are happy to see retention customers, especially with the lull in new lending. They'd hardly see anyone some days if it wasn't for our existing customers god bless em! It is wrong that this happens though. Other branches that are associated to us regularly say that either nobody is available and send them to us or that they cannot do it and they have to come see us. Total rubbish but we're happy to see anyone about anything which is why we have customers doing repeat business with us.

To the OP if you don't feel you are getting the right level of service or product then I would say you might want to see a whole of market broker where you should get both of these things. See if anyone you know can recommend one to you, I always go on recommendations for these kind of things. You have a good LTV and you've stated you have a good credit record etc so they should be able to open up more possibilities to you.
