How does the day go?

Hiya,

This will probably sound ridiculas, but I havent been to a wedding in ages!

But what is the order for the day?

You have the ceremony, followed by lunch/meal (is there a special name for this?) then the reception on the evening, Family stay over in a hotel if they have travelled far and then you have the wedding breakfast the next day?? then hopefully I guess the newly weds jet off to lands unknown for their honeymoon!

Is that along the right lines lol!

    Hi Lauren
The Wedding Breakfast is the lunch/dinner thingy after the ceremony!
You don't "have" to have this though - in fact, the wedding goes exactly how you want it.....

Lots of people get married later in the day and then straight into the evening "do"......all depends on what it is that you and OH want.
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

The lunch/meal after the ceremony is the 'wedding breakfast'.

It just depends on what each couple want, as there is no particular order or way you have to do things during the day.

The meal you eat with your guests is called the 'Wedding Breakfast' even if its dinner! Because its your first meal as a new family.

Our day is going like this..

    1.30 Guests arrive
    2.00 Ceremony
    2.30 Welcome drinks and photos
3.30 Welcome line to greet guests
4.00 Take seats for Wedding Breakfast
    5.30 Speeches
    6.00 Cutting of Cake

Time to mingle and freshen up

    7.30 Evening Reception Starts
    8.00 First Dance
    9.00 Evening Buffet Served
    12.30 Time to go home!
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

Ooo lol *feels like a muppet!* haha, I assumed it was the next morning as it was called breakfast so did my OH, Though I was confused as to why on earth you would want prawn cocktail for brekkie! Or why the hotel included a breakfast for the guests the next morning!

This might help explain why it's named a 'breakfast' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedding_breakfast

It is a bit confusing...that's why people often refer to the wedding breakfast as the "afternoon reception" before they have their "evening reception" - call it whatever you want love, it's your weddng...!!!!

Hi lauren, I am also a Lauren and born in 88 (if that's what your siggy means?). I too was very confused by all the wedding jargon but have found this place a huge help in helping me to decipher it all :D Have you set a date yet? x
  • My OH was confused about the breakfast too. When we got the info for our hotel package he was aghast that we would get 'breakfast' then have to sit around all day until the wedding, then only get a buffet for dinner!

He was relieved he had got it so wrong :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We did too! :o And we thought the 'welcome drinks' were before the ceremony, until pointed out we 'can't' be seen to be drinking before the wedding!! Doh!
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

No were not technically engaged yet either, he's planned proposals twice but i've accidently !!!!!!ed them up each time! So I don't know when his next attempt will be, but im keeping schtum this time!

I reckon it will be around our anniversary though! end of march, few weeks after our first baby is due. (my second, his first!)

I'm looking and roughly planning now to get idea of budgets etc...

I imagine unless we win the lotto, or a wedding lol it will be around the end of 2011- beginning of 2012 mark as we've got debts to clear and then to save up!
