  • Does the OR only freeze the bank account if it is a current account? I am concerned about getting my wages and TC into it if it will be frozen and I can't pay for food/bills. in which case I guess I'm best off getting this co-op account?

It is not the OR who freezes the account it is the banks, most banks do not like BR's and will withdraw their service.

Co-op (cashminder account) and Barclays (cash account) are the only 2 really BR friendly banks there are. Just tell them you are going BR when you open the account and they will be fine. When you have the quick call with the OR tell him this is your bill account and he should declare no interest in it. Phone Co-op when you are BR as a courtesy and carry on as normal,no problems, no freezing.

I opened mine just before going BR and I told them I was about to declare myself BR would that be a problem, they said no.

I did not include this account on my 'Bankruptcy Statement of Affairs' as I didn't have the details yet.

Straight after I filed at Court I spoke breifly to the OR and I told her this. I asked if this was ok and could I use this new account to get my Child benefit and Working Tax Credits paid into and she said it was fine.

So I have had no problems this way. ;) Just be honest and upfront I think it should be fine.

We opened ours about a week before, like underfire I didn't have all the details on br day, told the OR on the phone that we were going to the branch to pay some money in, she wasn't bothered.

We went straight to the branch and paid some money in, and got the account number as it hadn't arrived through the post at that time.

    No bother at all.

and remember of course IF you open an account before bankruptcy it will have to be listed on your bankruptcy forms....but as others said the receiver "usually" will show zero interest in it

  • I opened a Cashminder acc before BR and told them of it. When I spoke to the OR yesterday she said she would write to them but it is up to the Bank not the OR as to whether it is frozen, but she doesnt think it will be a problem and she doesnt have an interest in freezing it.
