Debt question

Options
Hi guys

I have a friend that worked in the USA for a few years and accumulated $50,000 in debt spread over several different credit cards. Whilst he has every intention of paying paying off the debt, due to the amount of money loaned he has started to struggle.

Since moving to the UK he contacted a number of the companies and made repayment deals with them. One company however refused and has passed his details to a creditor, who are now harassing him at work to repay the money.

Apart from speaking to the company he works for to stop the calls, I suggested if the debt is unmanageable to try and file for bankruptcy in the USA?

I wasn't sure what other advice to give my friend, so I wanted to see if anyone in this forum might be able to help?
