Credit Check for morgage

Options
My partner and I have recently had a credit check for a mortgage after shopping around. However the check got declined and now we don’t know what to do. We are absolutely gutted as we felt we had a good chance of purchasing this property.

We have gone on Experian and checked ourselves as we didn’t really understand as to how this could happen. We have noticed that two of my partner’s bank accounts are not on the list of Accounts – These are his regular account that his wages are paid into and his savings. Also my main savings account is missing. These are the only two things we have spotted.

Could this be the reason why we have failed this credit check?

We are first time buyers so all of this is very new to both of us and we are finding this quite stressful. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Obtain a copy of Equifax also....have you examined the credit report for 1 & 2's against any credit agreements..?
  • It is Bairstow Eves who asked for the credit check who use Natwest for their Morgages and we believe that Experian was used. We didn't get a reason as Bairstow Eves didn't know why the check declined.

What was your credit scores? Were all credit payments green. Were you registered on the electoral role? How much are you trying to obtain with what deposit and what income?

There has to be a reason if it is the credit score.
  • We have no 1 and 2's on the report we have obtained just 0's. However not all of our bank accounts are on the check these too should be 0's. Could this be the problem?
  • We haven't go our score just the free check on Experian. All is green. We are trying to obtain 75 k with a 10% deposit and a joint sal of 25k per year so this shouldn't be a problem. We are both on the electoral role.

Ask your family/friends/colleagues to refer you to a whole of market mortgage advisor, someone with experience should be able to get to the bottom of this for you......

Pay the £6 and get your score
  • Have you tried going to the bank/building society where your main accounts are? Having a relationship with the lender you are trying to borrow money from can make a big difference and they will be able to see how you operate your accounts even if equifax have no records
