Is it normal for the venue to invoice us after the wedding day?

We had our 6 month appointment with our venue today, although we only booked then 3 weeks ago. It was to go through timings etc, rough layouts of tables, ask any questions we had.
I asked her to forward an upto date cost as we had changed a few things and asked when the balance had to be paid ''before'' the wedding and they said - oh no not before we send you an invoice after the wedding!
I thought this was rather odd as everywhere wants paying fror everything weeks before the day.
So is it normal to be invoiced afterwards?

We were invoiced after the wedding. We got a full breakdown of costs. It helped as we didn't really know how much wine we were going to use so didn't want to limit it. It didn't matter as we went under our expectations. I also think that if things hadn't have been as they were, we would have been able to negotiate/query after the wedding.0

Im not worried about the venue adding on allsorts its a top notch venue, has won loads of awards etc and has rave reviews plus its stunning i just though it was a little odd.
She said we could pay it off beforhand if we wanted to that wasnt a problem.
I think its mainly as we have decided to have an arrival drink for our guests - a drink of thier choice, 1 shot & mixer, 1 bottle, 1 glass of wine or 1 pint and as they dont know what people will want the price will vary up or down on our estimates.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

We get invoiced for ours after too. Glad really as everything else needs to be paid 6 weeks before so we have some breathing space until after the wedding to find any additional monies we need from our June salaries! There are only two things a child will share willingly - communicable diseases and their mother's real age0

Yeah the whole getting invoiced afterwards has allowed us 1 more pay day which increases our budget by another £1000 which means i can now have those little extras which i didnt think we could afford.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

Why not offer to pay the majority of it beforehand, and then settle the drinks bill after by invoice?
We have to pay all of ours before, and settle any extras like rooms we are paying for before we leave.0 -
ours asks for the quote amount to be paid 2 weeks before the wedding (this week actually argh) then if there are any extras you pay them on check out of the hotelMarried on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0

Thats completely normal behaviour for venues if it is a conference / dinner dance etc.
With weddings they see pre payment as a way to make more money as the money will be in their bank earning interest etc.
If my venue let me pay post wedding I would bite their hand off.0
