I wouldn't send anything out to any of your accounts with your bank until you are sure that your salary is going to your new account.
But why are then new bank saying it will take 3months to switch? Have you asked them to move your dds etc for you?
Have you got a new account number and have you told your payroll department of this new number yet? As soon as payroll confirm that your next wages will be to the new account then send the letters out.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
hi lyn
I have been a long time lurker just picking up ideas from people and only just began to post and wanted to say congrats on starting to sort your debts out you will feel better in the long run although it is hard to do but stay focused and think of the end result it is worth it.
my partner and myself thought about doing a dmp back in 2007 when i found this site our combined unsecure debts back then was just over £65000 however we decide to try and pay back the money without using the dmp and just carefully reducing our spending and keeping an eye on all are outgoings as we didnt want to spoil our credit record before finding the site we just didnt worry, we spent paid minimums and thought life was great but now we are much happier as 3 yrs on are debts are down to £28000 and we can see debt free in our future we also having savings now which we never had in the past so dont have to worry about how or which card we can put car repairs on in an emergency and things like that.
just wanted you to see that if we could reduce our debt you can do it and i have read lots of good reports about doing dmp so good luck.
As a little extra advice once you start your dmp try doing things like carboots we have done this for extra money its amazing what will sell on average we have made between £50-100 per carboot and dont get rid of what doesnt sell one week take it back the next week and it may sell we found that more often then not most things did eventually sell.
You could also try ebay but i find that ebay selling is just too time consuming now for little reward after all the fees.
Then put the money away and save it as i have read alot of people on here doing settlements with their creditors after being on dmp and its away of reducing your time to become debt free
anyway sorry for such a long post and just remember everyone is here to help0 -

Hi Tixy and thanks again for good sound advice. Basically got email from A&L Friday, all the blurb when you apply states up to 3 months. I have asked them to transfer DD's and Salary payments to them but not close old account (overdraft is much bigger than the £200.0 they offer +part of DMP is paying off the overdraft as a debt rather than the seesaw effect at the moment when my salary goes in.
I was thinking of contacting salary dept when I got a/c details, so that is a definate plan as you advise it too! what you say and how yo say it makes perfect sense. So thanks again, I really need a friend like you at the moment! It is terryfing how many people are in similar situation to me. So people like you who offer straightforward unbiased help and support are such a comfort.
So, as soon as I get new a/c details, guessing Tuesday earliest, I will contact salaries - probably too late for next pay as goes in Fri.0 -

Thanks for your encouragement - really is appreciated. We have tried car boots, usually stand around for hours getting cold and take about £2.00 more than pitch at best. So that does not seem to work in our area. I used to do OK selling plants and produce at them - all good stuff - but recently well, last year brought home loads of plants and produce and ended up giving away the extra Id grown to sell. My main concern is that initial blight on my credit and that it means I wont be able to get credit at all for a while (well at least 6 years). I know its got to be done and I am going through the motions of getting started, but it is scary isent it?
I rememberd last night that I need some set books for my course - how am I going to buy them on-line without a credit card? OMG If I left it any longer I wouldent have a choice so I will have to find a way wont I!
Thanks again Lyn0
