    Thanks for everyones help, I decided to just send a cheque off so that is what i've done. I did however date it for the end of March lol - see how they like that! But technically (and legally) I have paid the account in full - its just they cannot have the payment until the date on the cheque (lol)

    Well that's incorrect actually, postdated cheques are not valid. They can cash it whenever they want (BACS doesn't actually look at the date), or they could ignore it as an invalid method of payment and still come after you.
  • If they pay it in early then fine, but the payment method (a bill payable on demand) is legal tender and so my payment is fine. I am hoping they dont bank it until the date I specify but if they do, then so be it.
