Visiting Glasgow this weekend, local advice..

Hi,
I'm visiting Glasgow this weekend with my husband and 2 children and wondered if local people could share some knowledge with me, please.

We are staying in the city centre (but will have our car) and wondered which is the best out of city centre retail park?
We are going to the Decathlon sports store at some point over the weekend, is that easy to find, do we need to take our car to get to it, from the city centre?

We'll have our 2 young teenage children with us, where would you recommend for an evening meal on the saturday night? perhaps somewhere that would appeal to them but still have a "nice night out" feel about it for us??

Are there any events on locally that we could go to?
We are about 9 pm friday leave sunday afternoon.

Thanks in advance,

Hi, the Decathalon centre is out the EastEnd near Easeterhouse. Its pretty easy to get to but a Sat nav would be ideal to get the right turn off the M8. Its not far but you will need a car.
Its also very close to the Fort shopping centre. There is a huge Hobbycraft there if your into things like that. It also has all the main shops. I prefer Silverburn for shopping, its about 15 minutes south on the M8/M77. its all undercover.

I had a look on the List and theres a few things you could so with the kids. Id recommend the Imax at the Science centre for something to do early evening. theres a few other things on on teh Sat but notsure what your kids are into so the List is a great place to have a look.

  • In all honesty I prefer the city centre of Glasgow if I was in it for shopping (often said it is best city retail area outside Oxford Street), rather than out of town places, but that is by the by!

Of them I'd say Braehead is better than Silverburn for the family although technically not in Glasgow. M8 J25a/26. It has the Xscape facility which has loads of restaurants, ski slope, bowling and cinema, as well as shopping centre, ship museum and retail park.
  • Yeah id second Braehead and Xscape. Lots of lovely shops undercover at Braehead shopping centre and then right next to it u have the Xscape place, with Skiing, snowboarding, Rock Climbing, Mini Golf n loads more. Theres a big cinema and Arcades.

The food court there is amazing, lots of nice places to eat. TGIs, Pizza Express, China Buffet, Nandos, lots of things to do in one place.

  • Silverburn gets my vote over Braehead. Less crowded, there's a Debenhams, and it has the huge Tesco Extra. Junction 2 of the M77.
