Help needed with Bags of Beans

Hi
Wondered if anyone could help.... Have been very kindly given small bags of the following:
Mung Beans
Red kidney Beans
Split peas (!)
Barley
Pearl Barley

Have eaten them before, but out of a tin. These packets have no instructions on them only foreign writing on the packs. Has anyone cooked these before ? Have looked in my basic cook book but cant find anything.

These could help with lots a meals etc, but at the moment am stuck.
Thanks.

kidney beans must be soaked overnight and then rinsed before cooking, then I think its about 30 mins cooking.
Pearl barley takes about 30 mins added to a stew and no soaking needed.
Mung beans can be sprouted and the sprouts are bean sprouts.

Here is a link to the BBC webpages which will tell you how to cook and what you can make with your pulses: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/back_to_basics/pulses.shtml

I have just discovered pulses too and am enjoying experimenting. Of the ones you've got, the really important thing is that, as part of the soaking/cooking process you MUST fast boil the kidney beans for 10 mins to kill off the toxins that could otherwise make you very ill.

A great tip I got was to cook my kidney beans and chickpeas etc in big quantities and then freeze them in usable portions - to avoind the need for soaking/boiling every time.

Mung beans can either be cooked and used in stews etc OR sprouted - which is a whole other topic.....

    Take care
