Some good points in there Happy so i think you should stay on the stool! :T

DIY SOS is usually half an hour so you haven't missed anything. They are a great crowd and they do like Tea and Beer! But they also work flippin hard.

I wonder if the difference between us and the Americans is down to patriotism or is it because they live in such a huge country? Ty's programme is great and they really do look after the needy. He has been over here to do a couple of community projects but they don't seem to have generated much help from business in comparison to what they do in the USA. Here it seems that companies will give to a charity but not if it will only benefit an individual. As you say it all seems very wrong :(

    Wonder what others will think

Dunno where they all are, watching football or the Grand Prix maybe!

I think you should take the pills more often - you talk a lot of sense ;)

My friend lives in the USA and tells me that the kids have to do so many hours of community service each year and can't pass the school year until they do, they also still have national service I think so maybe these things have something to do with it.

Here, we just don't want to get involved. And if we do flippin elf and safety comes in to it and it just makes doing anything soooooo hard. Complete madness IMHO

Anyway, been working most of the day so off for a shower and then I plan on relaxing for the rest of the evening. :)

    Talk soon

I agree with Maty, Happy you have some excellent points. Luckily in this country we have, what should be, an excellent welfare system, unfortunately it's so broke at the moment it's not so excellent. Even so, the majority of people who require housing by the state are housed in safe and maintained properties to a certain standard. (Well that's the aim anyway - there will always be an exception to that rule).

However, there is a band of people who will always fall out of the welfare system net. Those such as Mike and Johnnyjet who have purchased their own properties and got ripped off trying to upgrade them, or people who just can't afford to maintain their properties because of high living costs and low salaries.

Communities don't seem to be communities any more (or am I missing something?). People seem to be so busy trying to keep their heads above water and don't seem to have time to help each other. Pubs used to bring communities together but they're being closed down, as too are community centres. Children bring a community together too but if you don't have them you kind of get excluded.

I found out recently that we have a community project running around here and have decided to go to their next meeting later this month to see what it's all about.

I think the only way we can make a difference is by joining in.

Yes Maty, I forgot to mention about how hard it is for a community group to actually do the things they want to anyway due to elf n safety, CRB checks, insurance etc. - too much red tape.

Happy, you mentioned passing things on, have you ever watched the film "Pay It Forward"? If not please do. It's a lovely film but so very sad so make sure you have some tissues!

    Hi!

    Nice to see you again.

Still sealed away from real life, but only until Friday morning now. Only five sleeps excluding powernaps.

No-one knows when it will be aired - probably autumn.

Hoping your work picks up. No idea what you do but guess most people are tightening their belts.

    Take care.

I have nothing to add except I totally agree. Unfortunately it's mostly (not all) the ones with nothing that try to give their time and help, while the ones in a better financial position are too busy counting their pennies.

But we can all do what we can to help people.

You speak wisely for one away with the fairies :D
