Hi Mike, found this thread last night and am now totally addicted. Am only on page 34 but wanted to pop in and say hi and that I have found you to be such an inspiration so far. I too was ripped off by a cowboy builder, maybe will tell later but want to carry on reading to find out how things progressed for you, can't just skim over posts! Might be a while, but will catch up!:rotfl:

Bit of a challenge though - he's 58 miles way and the car says it's prepared to go 100 miles on the petrol it has available.

My current account has £2.90 in it. It's going to be a bit exciting coming home...

Sorry to drag up a thread from the dark ages (also known as March) but I have got the opportunity to look dead smug now coz I've got loads more experience of poverty see and just for once that's a good thing haha! :rotfl:

Next time this is what you do...

You drive HALF WAY there. You pass a petrol station, a mile later double back and approach the petrol station from the other way. You go in and you talk to the manager and you produce ID and you explain that you're only too happy to write a cheque dated payday or to come back on Tues when your money goes in, but you've been caught short and you can't get 29 miles home. Since your car will usually do about 35 to the gallon, £4 of petrol would do it, is there even the slightest possibility that pretty please could they consider letting you have £4 of petrol and your paying on Tuesday just so you can get home? You swear to God you would be there at whatever time of the morning they requested and will even leave your driving licence for security, after all they've got you, your car and your licence all captured on the CCTV and everything. Pleeeease? You wouldn't ask but- times are that hard.

It has failed me once. The other dozen times worked. And yes I ALWAYS pay up!

And it's not actually lying coz you DO need that to get home.

  • I haven't heard from Christine, should I email her to just tell her I shall be there on 18th? Rather than just turning up!!

Again, if anyone is coming from Stansted Airport way, or is on my way round the M25 I don't mind picking you up.... I'm going down morning of 17th to have fish and chips by the sea (if i'm surplus to requirements) and coming home after the hangover has gone away on 19th! Just pm me

Email her Psycho. She'll tell you what she has outlined so far. I've told her when I'm available, like you I have no idea when they will want me, but I have the impression plans will be firmed up by the end of this week.

    Trains are booked.

You might get some work out of me Tuesday 15th in the afternoon if the trains run on time, but I've agreed to get covered in paint on Weds and cardboard on Thurs and be at that reveal for Friday 18th 11am for definate... Then I am officially slacking off till my train departs late afternoon on Friday... After the reveal I aint even washing me own mug up, yer two full and one/two half days are up!

Ok next job... where am I sleeping... Back to slaving over a hot search engine.

Sarsie, not sure if the B&Bs are fully booked..... think a couple have been mentioned above. I've just booked into the YHA which is about 10 minutes from Mikes place. £34 for two nights (think there is a bit extra if you aren't a member) and it looks ok. Just going to make sure I keep my stuff locked in the boot of my car!!
