Wedding in 7 months!

Hello everyone, my fiance proposed on Saturday night so now we're planning a wedding! We're hoping to get married this September so have lots of planning to do.
We've done the following already: spoken to the Priest and provisionally booked the date; visited one reception venue and booked appointments at 4 others; booked an appointment with a photographer and florist to get an idea of cost etc; found a bridesmaid dress at BHS that my sister likes and says she's willing to pay for.
Hoping to get the whole thing done for 5k, but even with my most conservative guesstimates we're already coming in at 5.5k! HELP! We're not strictly tied down to that budget as we've got money saved for a house deposit and plan to use some of it for the wedding, but obviously we want a bigger house deposit!
Anyway enough rambling, on to a question:
Has anyone been to Copplestones in Liverpool to get a dress? Can't post links so it's bridal basement . co . uk
If so, what did you find and was it worth it? I'm in Manchester so it's a bit of a way to go if it's not all it's cracked up to be.

We have been engaged for 2 years and i set the date on new years day, thought it was now or never and i set the date of 26th august which gave me 8 months, so 7 months is very doable, concentrate on the BIG important things first that nned to be booked, then the other little bits will fit in later.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0 -
We're getting married on 3 September, and only booked things on 12/13 January, so it is possible!
Look at the chain hotels for "bundles" for your reception - Barcelo do a "Wedding In A Box" / "All Wrapped Up" deal (£2500 at our chosen hotel)...also DeVere are doing deals...it all helps to make your budget stretch!0 -
Boyf of 11 years finally propsed on V Day! Now planning for 23rd Feb!
Looking at rings Sun, venue Mon and booking reception at his cricket club (hog roast me thinks!).
Hoping friend will be photographer, Aunt doing cake, and have a few florist contacts.
Will probably make invites as we are having a small do and then I personalise them!
Am just really stuck on a dress, will start another thread, as a bit desperate!Give yourself a Chistmas bonus £14 a week!
Total so far £280 -
Hi,
We are getting married in September too. I think people really exagerrate at how early you have to book everything! I've sorted my venue, photographer but not much else! Don't feel rushed and let anyone put you off browsing. I have got loads of car quote and they are all still available for my date.
I'm getting married on a Sunday too so it's cheaper, and more things still available to book.0 -
Plans.... What budget do you have for your dress?
I went to a bridal shop on High Street by the Arndale centre inManchester that has new made to order dresses for £400 or half that in the sale. It's Bride Be Lovely if that helps at all. The staff in there were so lovely and its definitely worth a visit!!What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Thanks for all your responses! Picklepick, I've budgeted £300 for a dress, but as always am hoping to get one cheaper. My nan is a dressmaker (in her younger days (!) she made a dress worn by Ava Gardner the Hollywood film star) so hoping any alterations etc she might do. I've toyed with the idea of asking her to make one from scratch, but she's 78 so it'd be a lot of work and don't want her to feel obliged. Maybe she won't mind doing alterations though!
My fiance just emailed me details of a FANTASTIC venue for the reception and it would be relatively cheap so if they've got availability I could up the budget for other things. I'm also hoping my fiance's uncle will drive me to the church in his car to save on transport as he has a nice Mercedes, but he's the biggest drinker in the family so would need to arrange for him to leave the car back at home after the Mass and figure out some other way of getting to the reception.
Is a 20 - 25 min drive to the reception venue on a motorway too far away to go? If we got this venue we like, I expect we could afford to arrange a coach for the guests but if not, would you expect your guests to travel that far under heir own steam for a reception?0 -
I don't think that's too far to go. Alot of my family live 10 mins away from the venue, but others, and most of my other half's family are a 40 minute drive away down the motorway. Alot of them will be staying at the venue overnight and are willing to pay to do so!0
