Requirements for Participation
Are you aged between 18-64, right-handed and is English your first language? If so, we would like to invite you to take part in an interesting and very important study, which involves measuring the changes in people’s brain electrical activity while they undertake “everyday” activities, such as watching TV and surfing the internet.
The study will require 2 hours of your time, during which you will participate in 2 “viewing” sessions of no more than 30 minutes duration. There will be a short break between the 2 sessions. During the sessions you will be asked to wear a small cap (similar to a shower cap) that measure your brain’s ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY or “brain waves”. The caps are PASSIVE DEVICES – THEY DO NOT GENERATE ANY ELECTRICITY. All respondents can be reassured the process is completely safe - and will find this most interesting!
During the sessions, respondents will view the test content through a set of glasses (similar to virtual reality goggles). They can see through these glasses allowing viewing of the TV/Internet material. Whilst viewing the content, respondents will also see a peripheral (not in the centre of the screen) flickering white light generated by the glasses. For those respondents who wear gasses, the “goggles” can be worn over the top / in front of their normal glasses.
On arrival at the venue, an introduction to the study will be provided, along with an opportunity for respondents to ask any questions they may have. Set-up of the electrode cap and glasses will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Their total involvement with be no longer than 2 hours.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Participants suffering from epilepsy or severe migraine should be advised not to attend - as a precaution only.
The study will run between 8th – 13th March 2010 at the Centre for Neuroimaging Sciences, De Crespigny Park, Denmark Hill (Near Camberwell) in South London.
All respondents will be reimbursed £60 for their participation and travel.
If you would like to participate, please fill out our contact sheet and a short questionnaire and one of our recruiters will get back to you shortly. Thank you.
