"rusty" mark on shirts from washing machine ?

Give the company who made your machine a ring. They may be able to help as they probably have seen the problem before.0

Maybe a daft idea but are you drying on a rack inside? I kept getting rusty marks on light coloured clothes, and after months of frustration I checked the airing rack I use to dry them in the dining room and the plastic coating on the rack was cracking and the damp from the clothes was making the metal underneath corrode. So the rusty marks were - well - rust.0

Hi there! We have an older thread on this subject and it includes a response from a WM manufacturer. I'll add this thread so that you can read responses there.

Yes and me on the bed clothes, I hoped it wasn't vinegar stains, from using that as a fabric conditioner. It never happened before I started using vinegar.
I also thought it might be connected to using vinegar in the rinse drawer. I only use that and Surecare washing powder and fabric softener in my machine.
Has anyone else made this connection?
I don't know if this is related but I've also noticed an orange patch on a green skirt - looks like it's been bleached - but I don't use bleach or any strong chemicals in my house at all.

Me too (brown rusty stains) , for some years. We are in a hard water area, and we do have very old pipework. But these problems didn't start for some time after we had moved here...
To sort out your stains, an old remedy + a newer one:
On a sunny day, peg your item(s) flat on an airer or similar. Mix a small amount of household salt with a little white vinegar. (The salt continues to absorb the vinegar for some time so gets thicker. Experiment to get the best consistency! You need it thin enough to spread...)
With a (stainless steel) teaspoon spread/dot the mixture on the stain. You won't need much, and of course the vinegar spreads out.
Leave in the sun for at least a couple of hours. Drip a bit more juice as the salt dries out.
Then carefully fold the item in on itself (to keep the salt contained) and take it somewhere you can remove the salt. Having done that put it into a bucket/bowl with a strong (hot) solution of biological powder and leave 24 hours. If stains don't budge, you haven't used enough biological - give another soak.
I then wash with a bio pre wash and my usual powder for the main wash.
Have never had problems with lemon bleaching too much...
Good luck! Now all I have to do is discover where the stains are coming from. Intermittent, about every 3/4weeks perhaps. Sometimes longer.0
