Middle Eastern Recipes?

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone have good Middle Eastern recipes please? I fancy graduating on to middle eastern foods instead of indian and chinese foods all the time.
I had some food made by a Libiyan lady recently and it was fantastic! All cakes & biscuits have a particular taste that i just couldn't place. Apparently you use a specific spice in very small quantities in all cakes/bics from that region but she didn't know what it was called in english. I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know what it is?
She had a red non-alcoholic drink that is "brewed" from a type of weed and made into a concentrate, then you add it to water and add a couple of spoons of sugar. It was lovely, really fresh and refreshing. Apparently it is drunk all over north africa - tunisia, Libiya, Egypt. Again, it's a long shot but does anyone know what it is?

Hi Zziggi, was it aniseed? No ideas on the drink, sorry...Context is all.

Cinnamon is widely used in Middle Eastern biscuits & pastries, together with allspice.
The tea could have been "anything" as a vast array of wild plant leaves & roots are used.
There's a good collection of recipes taken from various books here and some good links here

Could it be something like caraway seeds that added the flavour?0
