Hi
Friends have been to Stobo Castle near Peebles and loved it ! I think it would would undoubtedly be the best in the area!0 -

Stobo probably the best one (not sure if there are any others apart from spas within leisure centres.) Very nice indeed:smileyhea0

I was at Stobo Castle today on a day visit. I was really disappointed. It was a birthday present from the OH, and was for a Winter Special -one treatment and use of the facilities. The facial wasn't that good - the girl spent a lot of time going to fetch things whereas other places I've been it's been all prepared. I probably got 25 minutes worth of facial out of the advertised 55 minutes and 15 minutes of that was the face mask!
There were a lot of "hen parties" in - large groups of girlfriends.
It is a lovely place but takes in too many people. I couldn't use any of the steam rooms as they were permanently full, although did get in to the jacuzzi (although that was full too). The pool had an aquaerobics class going on so the morning swim wasn't very relaxing. The pool was quieter after lunch, but having had the facial at 11.30 (you don't get to choose the time on a day visit) I wanted to swim first. The loungers around the pool have towels etc draped over them, so no chance of sitting there! The "relaxation area" was also always busy, and the cafe has very uncomfortable seating.
The food was very good. I did feel a bit uncomfortable as I was the only one in a bath robe in my dining room (everyone was dressed) although in the other dining room there were many robe wearers. It's also a bit poor that they don't provide slippers - if you don't bring your own you're padding around with cold bare feet!
To sum up, it is good, but not great and very expensive for what it is. I've been to nicer hotels that have pools and beauty rooms. Having said all that, Stobo is a bit of a legend so at least I've now been.0 -
I'm maybe a bit late with my views but I too was bitterly disappointed in Stobo. My best friend paid £150 each for a package for us as a birthday gift for me and the treatments were rushed, every one was just over half the time quoted and as the previous poster said it seemed to be full of hen parties (noisy hen parties at that). I didn't find it remotely relaxing, I couldn't wait to leave and I was really embarrased that I'd been given it as a gift and couldn't enjoy it more. It was a most uncomfortable day.
Have you looked at McDonald Cardrona. I haven't used the spa but have stayed here a few times on Corporate events and couldn't fault it.
I also wonder about Peebles Hydro - looks like they do pamper breaks and day packages - haven't been myself but may be worth investigating.
Good luck on your search!0
