Venues in Leicestershire

My daughter is getting married in Leicestershire in April next year. As she is under a lot of pressure at work at the moment I volunteered to do so preliminary investigation of possible reception venues for her. I have had a look at venues on the wedding venues site and ordered or downloaded brochures.
One thing that strikes me is that so may venues seem so similar. There was a thread a few days ago from someone else saying the same thing. People kindly posted links for some lovely alternative places, sadly none of them near us. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend anywhere in Leicestershire.
Also I have had a look at restaurants in various guide books and sites. As my daughter will be having a church wedding we are only looking for somewhere for a meal. Do restaurants sometimes cater for large functions and let one book out the whole restaurant for the evening?

Sorry about so many questions, it all seems a bit bewildering.

hey MrsEs - Well done for offering to help your daughter - I'm sure she'll appreciate it.

Can you let us know whereabouts in Leicestershire she is getting married, and how many people you're looking at for the reception.
Does she want a sit down meal? Buffet?
Is she having a wedding breakfast and evening do? or just into the evening do?

We will try our best to find some alternatives..!

Depending on where abouts you are in leicestershire, this place is always very popular for weddings http://www.leics.gov.uk/index/education/community_activities/outdoorlearn/beaumanorhall/beaumanorhallweddings.htm

Thanks for the quick response Dazzie.
The church is in the Oadby/Wigston area, just south of Leicester.
As she wants an afternoon wedding we will just be looking at an evening do. Preferably a sit down meal for about 80 guests but she is happy to consider a buffet.
  • I'm in Rutland, 5 minutes from Leicestershire, and I know what you mean about most places looking the same.

We're getting married in Oakham Castle, then our reception will be in Victoria Hall in Oakham (30 second walk away) and our honeymoon suite is another 30 seconds away! lol

ok - I'm not a local, so I'm not sure how good any of these are - but maybe....

Guthlaxton Community College apparently have a function room?

    Leicester Racecourse?

Woodland Weddings? (I can't find a website for them - but that sounds lush to me!!)

You've probably already seen all of these - but there maybe something you haven't considered.

I have visited the old horse before and they have been catering for functions. It is very quirky (they have a tardis in the garden and lots of interesting nicnacs inside!) but it might be worth enquiring if you are after something different. It has a big garden with lots of tables (but I guess if you are in Oadby you will have visited at some point!)

  • Hello

we got married in leicester 3 and half years ago and looked a a huge number of venues and then we went to a wedding fayre at the holiday inn st nicholas circle (would never have looked at this venue due to location and exterior) but it was lovely.

so we made intial enquiries and got a very good deal for our wedding ceremony, meal for 60 people then buffet for 80 people and disco in eve. Had photos in castle park was october so lots of autumn leaves

we also looked at grand hotel in granby street - stunning but do you want to be passing all the drunks on the street! nowhere outside for photos

belmont hotel - just didnt like it

stage hotel nr wigston - again didnt like it very school hall

kilworth hotel is stunning but was a little out of our budget

personally wouldnt even bother to look at guthlaxton college!!
  • Thanks for all the suggestions, they have been really helpful. A friend has offered to accompany me to have a look at various venues and then we can narrow then down to a few for my daughter to have a look at.
