Shoes have to last a reasonable period. Shoes bought for 50p can't be expected to last more than a couple of weeks, but at £140 they have to be expected to last a lot longer.
Take them back and I'm sure they will exchange them for a new pair for you. They may moan but just say that you've worn them a reasonable amount (not every second of the day and for rock climbing for example, just for going out normally) and you'll get your replacement pair.

I think the phrase you need to use when you take them back is that they were "not fit for purpose". Try a quick search on Google for Consumer Rights - think the CRB website may have a lot of information that you could access.

I've wanted a pair of Rocket Dogs for ageeees! They have some BabyShams too... I'm going to take a punt on a pair of size 5s, even though I'm a 6 - I'm sure I can find someone who wants them if they (which they probably won't ) fit
